The Heartwarming Legacy of Dearheart Silver Persians

In the sunny days of Long Beach, California, Jeanne Ramsdale and her husband Dr. Philip Ramsdale created something truly special with their Dearheart cattery. Jeanne, a respected breeder, judge, and author of books on Persians, dedicated herself to perfecting Chinchilla and Shaded Silver Persians. She focused on preserving the classic, elegant type rather than following extreme trends.

Dearheart cats became known for their stunning looks and sweet personalities: silky coats with delicate silver tipping, brilliant emerald-green eyes with striking black rims, charming brick-red “heart-shaped” noses, and gentle, affectionate natures that feel almost puppy-like. Their beauty made them favorites for Fancy Feast commercials for many years, capturing hearts around the world.

Jeanne carefully color-bred her Silvers to maintain health, coat quality, and that lovely traditional “doll-face” expression. While many lines moved toward ultra-flat faces, Dearheart cats stayed true to a more balanced, expressive look.

Sadly, after Jeanne and Philip passed away, the original cattery faced difficult times. A devastating fire took many of the cats, and the line became quite rare as breeding trends continued to change.

Thankfully, passionate breeders stepped in to protect the legacy. Diane Amble, through her L’Dearheart efforts, played a major role in preserving and rebuilding the bloodlines. She worked closely with dedicated people in the United States and South Africa (where Stella Slabber had imported and safeguarded Dearheart cats since the 1970s). Through careful imports, thoughtful breeding, and strong mentorship, they kept the authentic Dearheart traits alive.

Today, we at RoyalGem Persians are proud to be part of this continuing story. Our silver kittens carry the same beautiful type, health-focused breeding, and wonderful temperaments that made Dearheart cats so beloved.
